ACC held its 2009 Fall Board Meeting and Deputy Ministers’ Dinner on November 4 at the Matrix Hotel in downtown Edmonton.
Approximately 40 chamber representatives attended the education sessions featuring Brad Odsen, Alberta’s lobbyists registrar, business consultant Bob Klay, who spoke on pandemic planning, and Dave Hodgins, managing director of the Alberta Emergency Management Agency.
The day’s brief board meeting saw 25 chambers represented for the regular agenda items, along with an addition from the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce, which sought support for the City of Edmonton’s bid to host EXPO 2017. ACC’s board of directors voted unanimously to endorse Alberta’s capital as Canada’s bid city. ACC has sent a letter to Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Canadian Heritage Minister James Moore expressing our federation’s support for Edmonton’s EXPO bid.
Following the day’s activities, members of our federation joined ACC’s other guests for the Deputy Ministers’ Dinner. In all, more than 200 people sat down to dine with the upper echelon of Alberta’s public service, giving ACC a full house for this popular event. All but two of Alberta’s 24 deputy ministers attended the dinner at The Matrix, which is located just down the street from most of their offices. The heads of seven of Alberta’s Crown councils and provincial agencies also attended as our guests.
Brian Manning, Alberta’s head deputy minister, once again moderated the after-dinner question-and-answer session with grace and good humour. The deputy ministers answered questions on topics that included transmission lines, the province’s fiscal plan, economic diversification, tourism, climate change, federal stimulus funding, and Alberta’s global energy reputation.
2009 Provincial Conference and Policy Session
May 28-30, 2009

The Grande Prairie & District Chamber of Commerce hosted the 2009/2010 provincial conference and policy session from May 28-30. Approximately 140 delegates attended the conference and 35 chambers from throughout the province were represented. Many locals joined conference delegates at a wonderful opening reception at the spacious and scenic Centre 2000 Trade and Tourism Centre on Thursday evening and it just got better with an afternoon tour of the community and chuckwagon races at the annual Stompede.
