As the October federal election nears, and as a business leader, who has your support? How does one candidate’s platform differ from the next? What is their stance on issues affecting your business? To answer these important queries and more, the Alberta Chamber of Commerce, Edmonton Chamber of Commerce, and the REALTORS® Association of Edmonton are proud to host a unique Federal Election Forum & Candidate Meet-and-Greet.

Upon arrival, you will be invited to upstairs, throughout CuriousCITY – inspired by iconic Edmonton landmarks, to engage in open discussions with electoral candidates from the Edmonton Metropolitan Region. This is guests’ opportunity to express key areas impacting your business or industry.
Following the candidate mixer, there will be a lively panel discussion in the newly renovated Zeidler Dome. Hosted by Edmonton’s Ryan Jespersen, political experts will discuss party platforms, electoral projections and hold a Q&A with attendees – uncovering how the outcome of the federal election can impact Albertans and business in the province.

About the Panelists:
Janet Brown, Janet Brown Opinion Research
With over 25 years of experience in polling and market research, Janet has developed a knack for asking the right people the right questions. Based in Calgary, Janet Brown Opinion Research specializes in designing research projects that give clients a clear understanding of the audiences and stakeholders they want to influence.
Throughout her career, Janet has managed research assignments for all levels of government and numerous private sector organizations. She has extensive experience in both quantitative and qualitative research, having designed and managed hundreds of custom research projects. In partnership with journalist Paul McLoughlin, Janet publishes “Wild Ride”, a quarterly report tracking public opinion in Alberta, and Alberta’s rapidly evolving provincial scene. Janet is often invited to speak about political and social trends. She is a regular commentator on the CBC Calgary News at Six, Alberta Primetime on CTV2, and the Global Calgary Weekend Morning News. Janet recently lead a large scale public opinion research project for CBC Calgary, as part of their series “Calgary: The Road Ahead.” This research will go beyond the “horse race” numbers to identify the underlying dynamics that are driving public opinion in Alberta. Janet continues to be active in the academic community and regularly delivers guest lectures at the University of Calgary and Mount Royal University. She is co-author of “Marginally Better: Polling in the 2015 Alberta Election”, a chapter to be included in “Orange Chinook”, an edited volume to be released by the University of Calgary Press in Fall 2018.
Catherine Griwkowsky, Alberta Today
With over a decade of experience, Catherine Griwkowsky is currently a reporter with Alberta Today – a daily news publication covering all things Alberta Politics. Covering everything from healthcare to the economy to energy and education, Catherine reports from Alberta’s legislative press gallery. Catherine previously reported for the Star Edmonton and was a multimedia journalist at Postmedia.
Dr. Trevor Tombe, University of Calgary
Dr. Trevor Tombe is the Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Calgary and a Research Fellow at The School of Public Policy. Prior to joining the University of Calgary in 2012, Dr. Tombe was an Assistant Professor of Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University.
His academic research focuses on a broad range of topics, but mainly on the intersection of international trade and macroeconomics. In addition to this work, he continues to actively contribute to public policy research and outreach in Alberta and Canada.
