Alberta Chambers of Commerce welcomes Alberta and Canada energy agreement focused on growth, competitiveness, and responsible development

EDMONTON, AB – The Alberta Chambers of Commerce (ACC) welcomes todays announcement of a new agreement between the Government of Alberta and the Government of Canada, which sets out a shared plan to strengthen Alberta’s role in meeting global energy demand, advance emissions reduction initiatives, and support long term economic growth.

The agreement includes commitments to expand Alberta’s energy export capacity, including a privately financed and Indigenous owned pipeline to Asian markets with capacity exceeding one million barrels per day. It also outlines collaboration on carbon capture, utilization and storage, as well as work to support new investment in electricity infrastructure and data centers.

ACC believes these measures have the potential to support a stronger, more competitive Alberta economy.

Benefits for Alberta business and workers

More jobs and investment: Improved export capacity and investment certainty can help create new opportunities across energy production, engineering, construction, manufacturing, and services.

Market diversification: Reducing reliance on a single export market supports long term economic stability and improves Alberta’s ability to compete globally.

Responsible growth: The agreement recognizes the importance of carbon management and the need to advance emissions reduction technologies including carbon capture. ACC has long supported an approach that balances economic development with environmental responsibility.

Indigenous economic participation: The commitment to Indigenous ownership aligns with ACC’s position that economic reconciliation is essential to long term prosperity and stronger communities.

ACC perspective and policy alignment

ACC has consistently recommended policies that improve regulatory certainty, support infrastructure development, and expand market access. The agreement announced today reflects several of these priorities. It emphasizes practical steps that can strengthen Canada’s economic competitiveness while managing emissions, building on the capabilities and leadership of Alberta businesses within the global energy industry.

“We welcome this agreement as a constructive step toward building economic competitiveness and resilience for Canada,” said Shauna Feth, President and CEO. “When governments work together to remove barriers to investment, expand market access, and support responsible resource development – all Canadians win.”

“This plan recognizes the importance of environmental performance while ensuring Alberta and Canada can leverage its competitive strengths to reliably supply energy to a world that needs it.”
