What is the Talent Development Task Force?

A data-driven strategy connecting business, education, and government to sustain long-term economic competitiveness.

The Talent Development Task Force was founded by the Alberta Chambers of Commerce (ACC) and the Alberta Post-Secondary Network (APSN).

Co-chaired by the CEO of ACC and an APSN member president, the Task Force brings together employers, education providers, and provincial and federal funders to strengthen Alberta’s workforce.

Its core focus is to build a culture of direct engagement between business and post-secondary institutions, aligning education and training with Alberta’s current and future workforce needs.

Recognizing that talent is central to Alberta’s prosperity, the Task Force is committed to developing the next generation of workers, builders, and innovators who will position our province for continued success.

Phase 2 (2025–2028): Advancing Alberta’s Talent Strategy

Building on the foundation established in Phase 1, Phase 2 focuses on implementation — turning research and alignment into action. The Talent Development Task Force is advancing Alberta’s Jobs Strategy by helping employers close skills gaps and build strong talent pipelines through an employer-led, data-driven approach.

Key components include:

  • Implement the Talent Pipeline Management (TPM) approach
  • Partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation
  • TPM Academy training for 40 participants across sectors
  • Workforce Acceleration Summits (semi-annual, beginning 2026)
  • Focus sectors: aviation, manufacturing, health, industrial trades, agri-food, and technology
  • Data-informed, collaborative, and sustainable actions to address skills gaps

Funding: $2.4 million (April 2025–March 2028) from Alberta Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration and Mitacs.

Phase 2 directly supports provincial priorities to expand work-integrated learning, champion skilled trades, and connect training with real-time labour-market data—core goals of Alberta’s Jobs Strategy and related mandate letters.
